Where to eat on the Ormeau Road

The Ormeau Road in South Belfast is undergoing a bit of a resurgence when it comes to its food options, with a number of new restaurants and eateries opening up over the last number of years.

The area still retains its classic Belfast charm however, and some of these classics have been around for years. Check out some of our favourites here:

General Merchants

Super popular brunch spot on the Ormeau Road, with another location in EastBelfast as well. Great coffee and their huevos rancheros are amazing – prepare for a wait though as they don’t take bookings.

Bia Rebel Ramen

More of an Asian/Irish fusion, this Ormeau Road noodle bar has gained huge acclaim since opening in 2018. Fresh noodles made every day and topped off with the most flavoursome broth in town.

Dirtbird

Migrating over from West Belfast where it operated a takeaway service, Dirtbird opened on the Ormeau Road in 2019 and has a great 6 quid lunch deal during the week, serving up spicy grilled chicken and a number of tasty sides.

La Taqueria

Partly owned by members of local music giants Snow Patrol, La Taqueria has recently opened its second restaurant on the Ormeau Road to go with its Castle Street original. If you know your Mexican cuisine, you’ll know this place is good. Try the ceviche and the fish tacos.

L’Etoile

French cuisine wouldn’t be top of our list at Eat Out Belfast, but this Ormeau Road classic has been around for years and brings a Parisien touch of style to the area.

Kaffe O

Contender for the tastiest flat white in the city, the Ormeau Road cafe also has a selection of tasty and healthy lunch options for those in the area.

Macau

If traditional Chinese cuisine is your thing then Macau has you covered. Bring your own beer or wine and wash it down with spicy noodles and a selection of authentic Chinese seafood dishes.

The Naz

A popular Indian restaurant on the Ormeau Road, The Naz consistently dishes out top notch curries to hungry customers.

Bread & Banjo bakery

Do yourself a favour and get down early to this bakery before they run out of doughy goodness. Their sweet and savoury pastries are a carb lovers’ dream.

District

We love the coffee at District, which has shops in Stranmillis, Lisburn Road and Ormeau Road. Also great for a brunch meet up with pals, plenty of healthy options on the menu as well.

Greens

Big portions and little prices in their shops on the Lisburn Road and Ormeau Road, you really can’t go wrong with Green’s. Former Ireland and Ulster rugby star Stephen Ferris designed a monster of a pizza for their menu as well, so look out for that.
